Last week the world’s largest auction of Scalextric model cars raised £99,000 which exceeded all expectations.
The auction had been expected to raise £50,000.
Over 1,000 models were amassed by a single, anonymous, collector over a 30-year period.
A Bugatti Type 59, drew some of the most fierce bidding. Of the 40-50 made, probably less than a dozen have survived. Two in the sale went for £2,600 and for £2,500.
Other sought after items included a green prototype Batmobile, complete with a section of track, and a James Bond Aston Martin, with 007 ejector seat and bullet-proof shield.
Eighty boxed sets were also up for sale, dating back to the British company’s launch in 1957.
