Slotz Racer is a racing game featuring Scalextric-style slot cars on the iPod. The game is expected to be available later in January.

You control the cars using a simple one touch control to manage your acceleration; if you’re going too fast around a tight corner, you’ll go spinning off the track, just like the real thing!

The game comes with a bunch of different cars with various accelerations, top speeds, and cornering abilities. You can also build your own tracks using a bunch of different pieces.

The game also supports 4-player multiplayer on a single iPhone. Each player is given a corner of the iPhone to control their slot car.

A third dose of old Scalextric adverts. I can’t remember this advert despite its rather catchy tune and lyrics!

The Black Capri and the white BMW shown in the advert were my first Scalextric cars, I think they were a hand down from a friend or a find at a carboot sale.

I’ve found another 1980’s Scalextric advert. The advert itself starts at 2mins through the video clip.
This advert features Metros, Formula 1 cars and Porsches.

Below is an advert for Scalextric from the 1980s that I found from trawling through youtube.

I can remember the advert from when I was growing up. I can also remember writing to Santa Claus at Christmas asking for the starting gantry!

Earlier in the year Scalextric made a “miniaturized” spoof version of BMW’s highly successful “Be water” advertising campaign.

In the original advert, it is Bruce Lee who speaks to camera in English, in Scalextric’s version his lines were spoken by a young Chinese boy. In the new spoof version the three shots of the car at first glance appear to be the same as in the original, but it is not a real BMW, but a Scalextric miniature.

Below is a video showing off the Scalextric Powerslide set. The cars in the Powerslide set are fitted with a unique pick-up system that enables full 360-degree movement. Over cook it round a corner and you are going back the way you came!

The Scalextric Street Pursuit Set also features the same pick-up system which makes for some fantastic racing action!

Whilst browsing on Youtube I found this news clip from last year which celebrates the 50th birthday of Scalextric. The clip features the former Formula One World Champion John Surtees.
