New Scalextric Mobile Phone Game

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Spanish publisher LemonQuest has announced that it’s releasing a new mobile game based on Scalextric.
The game is released as part of a licensing deal with Spanish firm Tecnitoys, not Hornby. The game will be called SCX in some countries, and Scalextric in others.

The game looks great!! Up to six players will be able to race against each other. Details to whether that will be on one handset, via Bluetooth or even over the network have yet to be announced.

The game will allow you to modify your cars setup by tweaking your brake tension and fuel load. you will also be able to alter your pit-stop strategy and be able to build your own tracks with the game’s built-in track editor.

Fingers crossed that the game gets a UK release!

VoIP Scalextric!

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Speed Dial is a fantastic idea of Christopher Paretti who wanted to see how the game of Scalextric would change if the controller was voice driven.

I wanted to use the phone as a gateway into something different, yet still very social, and enjoyable. Slot cars have existed in one form or another for many years now, and whilst simple, they invoke a great sense of play.

I want to see how the incorporation of the telephone as a controller alters this play. Will people try to collaborate or compete to crash the cars? (most likely) Will people try to chant to keep a steady pace? Will adults enjoy it as much or more than children?

Ultimately I hope people leave the project thinking differently about play and the telephone, as well as having a great smile on their face.

This sounds like a great fun, and I would love to have a go!

A great way of getting a bargain on ebay is to look for misspelled items. There are always lots of Scalextric bargains to be found on ebay; items are commonly listed under titles such as ‘Scalectrix‘, ‘Scaletrix‘, ‘Scaletric‘ and ‘Scalectric‘. These items often are sold for a lot less than items with the correctly spelt title!

Don’t believe me?! Check out the picture below:
